Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Toan, head of the steering committee for completing the standards to establish Luong Son town, speaking at the meeting.

According to a report by the district People's Committee, to date, the district has basically achieved town-level standards, including population size, natural area, affiliated administrative units, and structure and level of socio-economic development. There are three criteria that have not been met: the rate of wards reaching 50% or more of the total number of administrative units; being recognised as a Class IV urban area, and the rate of non-agricultural labour in the district downtown, and townships reaching 75%.

According to the roadmap, by 2024, the district will complete the tasks and general planning of Luong Son urban area, make a Luong Son urban development programme, and focus on implementing priority investment projects and perfecting the town's criteria. In 2025, it will prepare a project to establish Luong Son town and six wards, and report to the provincial People's Committee to submit it to the Government.

At the event, delegates focused on solutions for general planning of Luong Son urban area and addressing difficulties in implementing Class IV urban standards such as training and educational facilities, cultural works, commercial works, urban-level services, and especially standards for domestic water supply, green trees, urban public spaces, traffic in urban areas and infrastructure for communes to be developed into wards.

Speaking at the event, Toan decided to establish a working group to assist the steering committee. He asked group members, and particularly the Department of Construction, to guide Luong Son district in the urban area general planning. The district continues to support communes in the process of implementing and completing the criteria for them to be developed into wards, and sectors guide and support the district to focus on perfecting technical infrastructure criteria such as lighting, water for daily use, criteria for moving towards a smart urban area. The district continues to share difficulties and obstacles so that the steering committee can promptly direct and speed up implementation progress, helping the district soon complete the criteria of a town.
