The pomelo garden of Mr. Vu Xuan Oanh's family, the Director of Dai Dong Agricultural Cooperative, Ngoc Luong commune (Yen Thuy) is at harvest time.

Born and raised in Cat Que commune, Hoai Duc district (Hanoi), in 1995, Mr. Dung and his family moved to settle in Dai Dong hamlet, Ngoc Luong commune. A year later, Mr. Dung brought 50 Dien pomelo trees to trial on the new land. After a period of care, he realized that Dien pomelo tree grew and developed well and it was quite suitable for the land here, so in 1997, Mr. Dung continued to plant more than 100 pomelo trees. Up to now, Dien pomelo tree that Mr. Dung brought back to plant has been attached to Dai Dong land for nearly 30 years. Dien pomelo trees have produced bumper golden harvests, and the traders inside and outside the district have considered them as one of the best pomelo gardens in Yen Thuy district. 

In 2015, implementing the project to restructure the agricultural sector of Yen Thuy district towards increasing the added value and sustainable development in the period 2016 - 2020, Ngoc Luong commune mobilized the people to change the crop structure, destroying the mixed garden and converting the entire area to growing Dien pomelos. Currently, there are about 40 hectares of Dien pomelos in the whole commune, including 31 hectares of Dai Dong Agricultural Cooperative that has been granted a growing area code for export to the EU, US, and New Zealand markets. 

Mr. Vu Xuan Oanh, the Director of Dai Dong Agricultural Cooperative, Ngoc Luong commune says: "Dien pomelo is an easy plant to grow, it does not require the sophisticated care techniques, and it is very suitable for the local soil and climate, bringing high economic efficiency and stable output. We have paid more attention to the quality of soil and water sources, and we have used the biological products to care for the plants so that they bring high nutritional value. Thanks to these, the pomelos grown and cared for in Datong land have a cool, sweet taste, juicy, beautiful fruit, characteristic aroma and rich in nutrients. If they are properly cared for and harvested and stored well, they can store for about 3 - 4 months without losing quality. In particular, the late-ripening Dien pomelos harvested in November and December are suitable to serve the needs of making five-fruit trays and in special occasions of the traditional Tet days of the nation”. 

With the application of the modern science and technology, without pesticides or chemical fertilizers, Dien pomelos, even though not grown in Dien land, still produce high quality, delicious, sweet and special pomelo varieties of 100% clean organic. Therefore, many families in Dai Dong have not only escaped poverty, they have also become rich thanks to Dien pomelos. Currently, the average income value of the quality pomelo garden reaches 300 - 400 million VND/ha. The total revenue of Dai Dong Agricultural Cooperative in 2022 was 7.5 billion VND. In 2020, Dien pomelos of the cooperative were recognized as a 4-star OCOP product. 

In 2022, Yen Thuy district coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and RYB joint Stock Company to export 9,600 Dien pomelos to the UK market. In 2023, according to plan, Dai Dong Agricultural Cooperative exports 50,000 pomelos to the UK and US markets... This is a great opportunity to increase the value of Dien pomelos on Yen Thuy fields. Dienpomelos in Dai Dong has been affirming its product position, opening up many economic development opportunities to increase the people's income, contributing to promoting the district's increasingly sustainable economic development.
