Phu Cuong commune in Tan Lac district has actively disseminated and mobilised local residents to donate land for expanding roads, constructing cultural houses, medical stations and schools, contributing to giving the homeland a facelift and completing many criteria for new-style rural building.

Residents of Bay hamlet, Phu Cuong commune (Tan Lac) donate land for building a communal cultural house.

With the motto "People know, people discuss, people do, people monitor, and people enjoy," the commune's party committee and administrator have promoted the implementation of democratic regulations among party members, union and association members, and people from all walks of life. Special attention has been paid to promptly resolving residents’ concerns.

Every year, the commune organises a ceremony to commend and reward individuals who have made significant contributions to land donation, thereby creating high consensus, arousing awareness and responsibility of the people.

Recognising the importance of promoting democratic regulations at the grassroots level, the village, in collaboration with the its party committee, has held meetings to inform local residents of new-style rural building plans, said Bui Van Hop, head of Vin Bai hamlet.

Thanks to high consensus from local residents, roads have been expanded, making traffic more convenient. Cultural houses and playgrounds have also been upgraded, meeting peoples’ needs.

Bui Van Uu from Bay hamlet said that previously, the width of the road in front of his house was only 2 metres, so it was inconvenient to travel, therefore when the commune launched the land donation movement to expand the road, all members of his family supported the initiative.

He went on to say that the road expansion not only facilitates local residents' travel and transportation of goods but also contributes to improving the spiritual life of the people in the hamlet.

Since 2001, 138 households in Phu Cuong commune have donated 34,550 sq.m of land, including nearly 5,000 sq.m of land for construction of cultural houses, over 9,100 sq.m of land for building kindergartens, and the rest for road expansion. In addition, local residents contributed thousands of work days and building materials to complete projects on schedule.

Implementing "All people stay united to build new-style rural and civilised urban areas” campaign, the whole commune has mobilised 4,764 work days and built two new cultural houses in Vin Bai and Bay hamlets with a total capital of over 2 billion VND, since 2023.

Dinh Dang Khoa, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Cuong commune, said that to spread the movement of land donation for rural road expansion among the locals, the locality has mobilised the entire political system to join the effort. Along with intensifying communication activities and raising public awareness, the local authority has issued mechanisms on commendation and reward to individuals with outstanding contribution, he added.
