(HBO) – With five out of 12 its hamlets classified as extremely disadvantaged, Hung Son Commune (Kim Boi District) has been prioritising the implementation of action programmes to make considerable progress in economic development over the last year.

According to the commune’s Party Committee Secretary Bui The Vuong, Huy Chi cooperative is one of the most successful stories in Hung Son. One of its products, lemongrass essential oil, is the first of the commune to be certified as "One Commune, One Product” (OCOP) product, rated three stars, and has reported good sales since it was launched.
Huy Chi cooperative not only remains the largest producer of lemongrass and lemongrass essential oil in Hung Son but also provides employment for a large number of local workers, about 50, with its garment factory.
Vuong said since it was established five years ago, the cooperative has played a part in driving the local economic growth towards sustainability, a direction encouraged by the communal Party Committee in its 2020 – 2025 term.
The commune has also given priority to implementing the local agricultural restructuring programme to bring into full play its potential in forestry, develop large-scale animal farms, apply advanced technology in farming to improve productivity and product quality, and foster commodity agriculture.
Thanks to such efforts, last year the rice farming areas totalled nearly 1,550 hectares, up 1.2 percent compared to the same period in 2020. Total aquatic farming areas reached 13.2 hectares wit expected output of 15 tonnes per year. In 2021, the commune’s total earnings hit 262.4 billion VND (11.5 million USD), up 13.3 percent year on year; and average income per capita rose by 12.7 percent year on year to 29.8 million VND.
Secretary Vuong said to create further breakthroughs in economic development, the commune plans to improve the effectiveness of cooperatives, strengthen linkages between producers and buyers, and focus on developing value chains for production of key products, such as lemongrass essential oil, longan, pomelo and bamboo shoot./.
