VGCL
President Bui Van Cuong participated in the working session with the Hoa Binh
officials.
According to the provincial leaders, Hoa Binh is
currently home to nearly 3,000 businesses, eight industrial parks and 21
industrial clusters which employ about 90,000 workers. There are also 1,625
grassroots trade unions in the province. In 2017, the provincial Confederation
of Labour has actively proposed the provincial Party Committee and the VGCL
major orientations for its activities and all-level trade unions. It has
coordinated closely with authorities, Vietnam Fatherland Front committees and relevant
agencies to step up examining and supervising the implementation of labour law.
It has also worked to grasp the situation of local workers so as to direct
relevant activities of all-level trade unions in a timely manner.
They said the provincial Confederation of Labour
has paid attention to caring for and protecting rights and legitimate interests
of trade union members and workers. Over 90 percent of local workers have
been covered by social and health insurance. Labourers have also been encouraged
to donate to education promotion and flood prevention funds.
The provincial confederation has pushed ahead
with a programme on improving the quality of negotiating, signing and
implementing collective labour agreements. It has sued companies that did not
pay social, health and unemployment insurance premiums while continuing to
settle any labour disputes arising.
Meanwhile, law dissemination among workers and
trade union staff, training in occupational health and safety, and a programme
on improving workers and trade union members’ professional skills have been
done well.
Sixteen grassroots trade unions were established
and 2,048 workers became trade union members in 2017, according to the
provincial confederation.
Speaking at the working session, VGCL President
Bui Van Cuong expressed his delight at the outcomes of provincial authorities’
direction for socio-economic development and defence-security consolidation
over the past years, especially workers’ movements and trade unions’
activities.
Hoa Binh should work with the VGCL to ensure
effective operations of local cultural institutions and trade unions, he said,
adding that the VGCL will cooperate with Hoa Binh to develop Kim Boi resort and
consider investing in a resort and tourism activities on Hoa Binh Lake./.
