HBO – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, in collaboration with the Vietnam Farmers’ Union, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the Hoa Binh provincial People’s Committee, held a ceremony to launch a New Year tree planting festival on February 13, in Kem village, Lam Son commune, Luong Son district of Hoa Binh, to commemorate late President Ho Chi Minh.

 National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan beat the gong to launch the New Year tree planting festival. Attending the event were representatives from ministries and sectors, together with member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Bui Van Tinh, Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council Tran Dang Ninh, Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee Nguyen Van Quang, and numerous locals.

 Addressing the event, Quang said that Hoa Binh always considers tree planting as an important deed during its socio-economic development, environmental protection and climate change response. The province has fulfilled its targets related to afforestation, forest protection and management, with the forest coverage hitting 51 percent. In 2019, local authorizes and people will actively respond to tree planting and forest protection to bring huge economic benefits and contribute to environmental protection.

 NA Chairman Ngan stated that green growth and sustainable development have become a top concern of all nations in the world and also a target that Vietnam is striving for.

 Growing more trees will help mitigate ravages of disasters, prevent erosion, reduce floods and improve the living environment, she added.

 After the launching ceremony, the top legislator joined other delegates and locals planted more than 2,000 trees of different kinds in Lam Son commune.

 This year, the province set a target of growing 5,790 hectares of concentrated forest and 15,000 scattered trees.

On this occasion, the NA Chairwoman granted presents to 30 local policy beneficiaries./.
