(HBO) - The winding roads along the mountainside lead us up to mountainous communes of Tan Lac district. Thanks to State support, the roads are now wide and less dangerous. Although there are still a lot of difficulties, Tan Lac mountainous district has got a facelift, with locals’ living conditions improved and new ways for economic development opening up hope for locals.

Defining infrastructure to be one step ahead to pave the way for socio-economic development, in the past term, Tan Lac district took advantage of investments of the State and the province through programmes and projects and the contributions of local residents and businesses inside and outside the province, with priority given to developing transport and essential works for the district in general and mountainous communes in particular. To date, all communes in the district have been connected to the national grid and 100 percent of local households have gained access to electricity. All communes have had spacious head offices, and schools and medical stations have been built solidly. The district’s mountainous communes have got facelift.
From Quyet Chien to Van Son commune, which comprises of Lung Van, Nam Son and Bac Son communes, infrastructure of schools and head offices is being built or repaired and the transport system has been concreted, showing the attention the district has paid to the mountainous land.
Special attention has been paid to poverty reduction and the implementation of ethnic affair policies through programmes, targets and plans on supporting production and housing for ethnic minorities and supporting students living in poverty, thus contributing to increasing the quality of household economy and improving locals’ living standards. Investment in basic infrastructure construction following Programme 135 has been carried out on schedule, helping boost local economic growth.
Chairman of the Van Son communal People’s Committee Ha Van Hue said that as 2020 was the first year Nam Son, Bac Son and Lung Van communes were merged into Van Son commune, it was inevitable to be like a fish out of water in leadership and instruction. In the past year, all socio-economic and cultural aspects were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, right from the beginning of 2020, after the apparatus was stabilised, the communal People’s Committee made directions in all socio-economic and defence-security fields, and encouraged locals to fight the pandemic and natural disasters. Last year, the locality’s economic growth is estimated at 14.6 percent, equal to 100 percent of the set target. The new-style rural area building programme was carried out on schedule, and the face of rural areas changed positively. Per capita income is estimated at 25 million VND a year. The commune’s total cultivation area is estimated at 1,400 hectares, with corn continuing to be the key crop with 860 hectares. The industrial – handicraft sector enjoyed growth with a total value of over 57 billion VND.
Tan Lac has had typical and high-quality products such as red purple garlic, sweet mandarin and Quyet Chien’s chayote leaves. Tan Lac’s chayote leaves are currently sold in major markets, restaurants and supermarkets in Hanoi and several other cities and provinces.
Together with the development of agricultural products with high economic values, tourism develop is also a new direction opening up hope for Tan Lac’s mountainous communes. Van Son and Ngo Luong have been put into the district’s southern tourism development zone. Tan Lac also defined potential areas for tourism development, including Ngoi Hoa bay in Suoi Hoa commune, Trong lake and Kem hamlet in Phong Phu commune, Trang Ta hamlet in Nhan My commune, Da hamlet in Lo Son commune, and mountainous communes.
The district has planted peach trees along mountainous roads to create a typical tourism product of mountainous communes. Some relic sites and landscapes of mountainous communes such as Kien Mount cave have been recognised as attractive destinations for tourists by the provincial People's Committee. The homestay tourism has been formed in Chien hamlet of Van Son commune, with the participation of three households.
Tan Lac tourism is gradually known for its very own attraction, creating opportunities for economic development and generating more jobs for locals./.
