(HBO) – The People’s Committee of Lac Son district of Hoa Binh province held a ceremony to announce the recognition of Thuong Coc commune as a new-style rural area.

The event saw the attendance of Bui Van Khanh, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; Nguyen Thi Cam Phuong, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Council; Dinh Cong Su, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; and leaders of departments, sectors of Hoa Binh province and Lac Son district.

As part of the efforts to implement the national target programme on new-style rural area building, over the past years, the Party Committee and administration of Thuong Coc commune has mobilised the strength of the whole political system, while stepping up communications to encourage officials, Party members and local residents to engage in new-style rural area building.

The efforts have resulted in consensus among local residents in implementing and completing goals of the programme. In 2019, after nine years of carrying out the programme, the commune completed all 19 criteria of a new-style rural area. Total resources raised for the programme was 213.3 billion VND, including 48.05 billion VND mobilised local people.

The face of Thuong Coc commune has changed drastically, with 81 percent of local roads and 79.7 percent of canal systems concreted. All local households have got access to the national power grid. The commune’s pre-school, elementary and secondary schools have met the national standards, while 98 percent of locals have joined health insurance. Per capita income of local residents is 33.7 million VND per year, and the ratio of poor households has been reduced to 11.41 percent.

Addressing the ceremony, Dinh Cong Su, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee recognised and hailed the achievements that the Party Organisation, administration and locals of Thuong Coc commune have made in the new-style rural area building movement.

He suggested that the Party Organisation, administration and locals of Thuong Coc continue to maintain and enhance the quality of the reached criteria, while expanding production in line with restructuring of the agricultural sector and the transition of rural economic structure, improving the income and living conditions of locals.

Meanwhile, the locality should focus more on environmental hygiene and upgrading rural landscape towards greener, cleaner and more beautiful direction, building model residential areas and gardens, while ensuring defence and security, he said.

At the same time, the commune should complete the twin targets of preventing and combating the COVID-19 pandemic and fulfilling criteria and tasks in new-style rural area building and social-economic goals, Su added.

At the ceremony, the new-style rural area certificate was handed over to Thuong Coc commune, along with 350 million VND in cash. On the occasion, the district People’s Committee presented certificates of merit to eight collectives and 15 individuals who have showed outstanding performance in the implementation of the national target programme on new-style rural area building in Thuong Coc./.
