Mr Nguyen Van Quang, vice secretary of Hoa Binh province’s Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, concludes the conference.

According to a draft report on the province’s socio-economic development in 2017, unpredictable weather changes have left significant impacts on local agro-forestry-fishery production and residents’ lives. Particularly, the floodings from October 9 to 12 left 46 people dead, injured, and missing, with damage estimated to reach 2,437 billion VND.

Hoa Binh has fulfilled 21 out of 24 socio-economic goals set for 2017, with State budget collection estimated at 2,960 billion VND, export revenue at 505 million USD, economic growth rate at 9.46 percent, total retail and service revenues reaching 22,368 billion VND and tourist arrivals at 1.9 million. The province recorded 16,670 new jobs, and health insurance coverage rate reached 94.5 percent.

The conference passed a socio-economic development plan for 2018, setting out various goals, including growth rate at 9.5 percent, GRDP per capita at 43.9 million VND, State budget collection at 3,000 billion VND and export revenue at 1.1 billion USD. The household poverty rate is projected to reduce by 2 percent, while 53 percent of the local labour force will receive training. The rate of rural population accessing clean water will be raised to 91 percent, and forest coverage will be expanded to over 50 percent. Twelve tasks and sector growth orientations were also presented.

In his speech concluding the function, Nguyen Van Quang, vice secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, ordered relevant agencies and sectors to take into account comments at the conference, review statistics, and put forth measures serving effective socio-economic development. Documents related to the conference must be submitted to the provincial People’s Committee before November 6.

He said storm aftermath alleviation remains a key task for the remaining time of this year, urging local authorities to give priority to help homeless families and restore agriculture production with the aim of stabilizing local life and production before the lunar new year festival.

The official also required provincial agencies and administration to look at three unfulfilled goals and seek measures to better do the work in the next year. He underlined the need to remove difficulties for the business community, facilitate startups, intensify promotion activities in trade, investment and tourism while continuing to push forward with administrative reform./.
